Quite often frowned upon across the world for its lack of creativity, British cuisine is undergoing somewhat of a renaissance. A whole host of restaurants are putting together modern takes on traditional classics to widespread critical acclaim. None more so than Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park whose inspiration came from hours of research into recipes from the countries medieval period.

Social Eating House

Social Eating House is the latest venture of renowned chef James Atherton - cooking up modern twists on British classics. The menu is a thoroughly creative one, with a tapas style format, offering dishes such as duck fat chips, pork belly sliders and wild boar ravioli, to name a few. Decor wise the restaurant is a striking contemporary space, with a mirrored ceiling and moody lighting.

 

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

Mandarin Oriental Hotel, 66 Knightsbridge, SW1X 7LA

Listed as the 9th best restaurant in the World in 2012, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is a must visit for anyone in London. Food here takes its essence from medieval Britain combined with Heston Blumenthal signature scientific approach. The restaurant, on the ground floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, is cleanly decorated with rich ebony finishes contrasting with the white walls.

 

Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley

The Berkeley Hotel, Wilton Place, SW1X 7RL

One of the most famed restaurants in London, Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley offers modern British and European cuisine served to the highest standards. The interior emphasises class with its rich plum walls and contemporary gloss black highlights.

 

Hawksmoor Seven Dials

Near Covent Garden, this former fruit warehouse is now one of London's best steakhouses. The interior is full of character with its high exposed brick ceilings and cast iron columns. The restaurant is a carnivores dream with a whole host of prime meat cuts and traditional roasts served with aplomb.

Ultra outlandish, Bob Bob Richard is a Soho institution where uniformed staff serve Russian-inspired Modern British food in a cool art deco surrounds. So out there in fact that diners are give buttons which they can press in order to order champagne.

Fera at Claridges

Nothing symbolises modern British cooking’s reassurance in popularity better than Simon Rogan’s Fera at Claridge’s. Dishes are derived from Rogan's original restaurant in deepest rural England - L’Enclume in Cumbria, with extreme focused being placed on local vegetables and produce.

Corrigan's Mayfair

Corrigans is an extremely classy yet fashionable affair that aims to evoke rural Ireland; with antlers decorating the walls and goose feathers adorning the lamp shades. The highly acclaimed food is exceptional too, with the focus being on big, hearty game dishes.

 

Northall Restaurant

A grand a sophisticated venue that is bound to impress any guest. Within its high vaulted ceilings, the Northall serves world class British cuisine produced from fresh and seasonal ingredients. With a grand restaurant comes a grand bar which despite its beauty is far from snobbish. The British theme is continued; even the house drinks are sourced from London.
